Happy Birthday Gatsby!
Today marks the 90th birthday of The Great Gatsby! Time to gather the bouquets and pop the Champagne!
This era is filled with crazy dance moves, great tunes, fun fashion and wonderful parties! In honour of the roaring 20's and our beloved Gatsby's 90th Birthday, I've composed a list of the top songs from the 20's (and some of my fave tunes from The Great Gatsby!)
Until next time,
Tessa
This era is filled with crazy dance moves, great tunes, fun fashion and wonderful parties! In honour of the roaring 20's and our beloved Gatsby's 90th Birthday, I've composed a list of the top songs from the 20's (and some of my fave tunes from The Great Gatsby!)
- Thrift Shop - The Postmodern Jukebox - This tune is a fun twist on the Macklemore jam that we all know and love. It makes perfect sense to go thrifting to find some vintage gems!
- Fancy - The Postmodern Jukebox - This twist on Iggy Azalea's breakout song. Nothing describes the scene from the 20's better than the word "Fancy"!
- Drunk in Love - The Postmodern Jukebox - While this song is closer to a 1940's style, the theme of being drunk and in love suits the Gatsby vibe. Champagne makes everything better!
- Bang Bang - Will. I. Am (from The Great Gatsby) - Now, this song is a great change to our good ol' Charleston. It's a great way to bring back an old song by adding some new, modern touches!
- A Little Party Never Killed Anybody - Fergie (from The Great Gatsby) - This song is one of my favourites! It never fails to pump me up plus the cute little sayings such as "I'm the bee's knees!" makes me laugh!
- Crazy in Love - Emeli Sande - Following the Drunk in Love route, I also feel like Crazy is another great word to use to describe the ever flowing emotions in the Great Gatsby!
- Tea for Two - Instrumental Jazz Players - This song is just too cute! Who doesn't love tea parties and metaphor's for love!
- Anything Goes - Cole Porter (or Sutton Foster in the musical Anything Goes!) - They didn't call it "The Roaring 20's" for nothing! At this point, anything went! Women became androgynous and dancing made some insane advances!
- It Don't Mean A Thing (If it Ain't Got That Swing) - Duke Ellington & Louis Armstrong - This is a classic tune from the 20's. Nothing better to listen to while dancing!
- In The Mood - Glenn Miller & His Orchestra - This is another classic song from the 1920's! This song is a flirty and fun song to swing to while trying to make eyes at the cutie across the room!
- Tuxedo Junction - Glenn Miller & His Orchestra - This song makes me think of the dapper fashion that the men used to sport back in the day!
- A String of Pearls - Glenn Miller & His Orchestra - The ladies sure knew how to dress in the 20's and adding a string of pearls added a feminine touch to any outfit they wore!
- Puttin' on the Ritz - Irving Berlin - Living on the Ritz was a huge theme in Gatsby, so I thought I should include this in the list!
- Moonlight Serenade - Glenn Miller & His Orchestra - Most parties happen in the evening right? Now, what could be more romantic than a Moonlight Serenade!
- Charleston - Steve Levine - Last but not Least, The Charleston! This is a classic tune from the 1920's that really set the vibe and inspired the style and dance move of the Charleston! Now a days, there are so many variations of this dance!
Congratulations, you old sport, on this milestone! May we remember the wise words of F.Scott Fitzgerald forever and the fact that Leonardo Di Caprio looked ever so charming as Gatsby.
Cheers!
Until next time,
Tessa
