Florence Foster Jenkins featuring Meryl Streep?

This news is hot off the press! We all know of Queen Meryl and her gems that we call movies. She has won 145 awards and has been nominated for 405 awards!

Speaking of another gem near and dear to the musical world, Florence Foster Jenkins. She found her fame in the 1920's after marrying into money and decided to follow her dreams. She filled the Met with people who came from miles and miles to here her...uh...angelic (?????) voice.

Recently, it's been published that she will be starring as Florence Foster Jenkins in the new film Biopic titled "Florence".  Hugh Grant will be her co-star, playing her partner and manager St.Clair Bayfield.

The tale of Florence Foster Jenkins is quite tragic. She was well known for her lack of rhythm, pitch and tone. She was ridiculed for her generally poor singing. Due to her poor ability to hear combined with her life long goal to perform began at a young age. Florence was firmly convinced of her talents! During her performances she would dismiss the audience's laughter and would called them "hoodlums planted by her rivals." One of her very famous quotes is, "People may say I can't sing," she said, "but no one can ever say I didn't sing." Her performances often had a mixture of the typical operatic repertoire by Mozart, Verdi and Johann Strauss. She would also perform Lieder by Brahms, Valverde's "Clavelitos" and would even compose songs by herself with the help of her accompanist of Cosmé McMoon.

There is even a play that honours the glorious life of Florence Foster Jenkins. It's called Glorious! "Based upon a true story, the play spins from Florence's charity recitals and extravagent balls, through to her bizarre recording sessions and an ultimate triumph at Carnegie Hall in this hilarious and heart-warming comedy.Glorious! is published to tie-in with the premiere at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, starring Maureen Lipman.

'Never less than riveting' - Scotsman

'Comically sublime' - Guardian

'Delightful and often blissfully funny ...This is a cult hit if ever I saw one' - Daily Telegraph"

'Lunatically funny comedy ...Maureen Lipman gives a virtuoso performance, glittering, hilarious and technically breathtaking' - Sunday Times

It is set to start filming at the end of this year/beginning of next year! Hopefully, she will be able to find her inner Opera singer (if you could go as far as to call Florence that...) and create another gem to add to her collection.

Let me know what you think!

Until next time,

Tessa
