Joyce DiDonato : The Yankee Diva

DiDonato_31Joyce DiDonato, Opera Singer extrodinare and also known as the Yankee Diva. For about a year, she has been my musical role model as a very versitile Mezzo-Soprano. In 2012, not only did she win the Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Soloshe also performed Non Piu Mesta from La Centriola. This piece is not only incredibly hard but to be exicuted properly and maintain a great performance is even harder. It's been noted that it took Joyce over a year to learn this work.
While she not only teaches masterclasses in her spare time, she also has her own youtube channel, documenting her adventures backstage, answering questions and giving guidance to young singers! She has spoken at Julliards Commencement ceremonies, including her famous line: "You will never make it … “It” doesn’t exist for an artist. The work will never end… It will always be there for you — even if in some moments you lack the will to be there for it. All it asks is that you show up, fully present.
It’s not about you … You may not yet realize it, but you haven’t signed up for a life of glory and adulation.
The world needs you … We need you to help us understand that which is bigger than ourselves, so that we can stop feeling so small, so isolated, so helpless.”

In my opinion, she is one of the most influential singers of this era, and the fact that she shares her knowledge with us and is willing to guide us, is remarkable.
You can follow Joyce on her website , where you can see all her press on upcoming concerts and recitals, new recordings, photos and more!

I hope you enjoyed a snapshot of one of my favourite musicians!

Until next time,

Tessa
